The Caravan
About
The Caravan is a restored retro caravan for two in a private corner of our working cattle farm in Broke, on the tranquil side of the Hunter Valley. The van is the bedroom; beside it, a covered semi-enclosed deck holds the kitchen, lounge, full bathroom and a table for long dinners. Outside: an electric two-person bath, a fire pit (seasonal) and a barbecue. Heating, air con and wifi. Margan, Winmark and Krinklewood are minutes away; Yellow Rock is on the horizon. Playful, nostalgic, very quiet.
Good to know
The caravan A restored retro caravan that is your bedroom for the stay: double bed, electric blankets, hangers and reverse cycle air conditioning, plus a little dinette table to sit at and a small sink. It's the charm; the pavilion beside it does the rest. The pavilion A covered, semi-enclosed deck with blinds, a few steps from the van, with a ceiling fan for summer and a heater for winter. Kitchen with a portable induction cooktop, fridge and freezer, toaster, kettle and coffee maker, with coffee, tea, salt, pepper and oil provided, plus wine glasses for the local bottles. Two lounge chairs, a dining table and wifi. Bathroom with a hot shower, eco-composting toilet, hair dryer, shampoo, conditioner and body soap. Outside An electric two-person bath under the sky, pre-heated and ready to go when you arrive, and a barbecue with utensils. The fire pit is seasonal and may be closed over the warmer months. Beyond that, the paddocks and the farm. You're welcome to wander. Cattle numbers vary through the year, and our border collies are usually about somewhere. Guest access The caravan, pavilion, bath and fire pit are yours alone. Parking is on-site beside the van. Self check-in via lockbox, with the code sent to you on the morning of arrival. Check-in from 3pm, check-out by 11am. Good to know Adults only: no children or infants, as this is a working farm with electric fences and the occasional wombat hole. No pets. No smoking or vaping in the caravan or pavilion. You're in the country, so expect birdsong, the odd distant tractor and, as with any outdoor stay, insects and small creatures. Insect repellent is provided, and we have electric snake repellers installed, but please take care in long grass. Quiet hours are 10pm to 6am. Hosts Bernadette and Max live in the homestead about 300 metres from the caravan. You're unlikely to see them unless you want to, but they're close by if you need anything.
Other Details to Note
A few honest things worth knowing before you book: The last stretch of road in is dirt. It's fine in any car, no 4WD needed. The caravan is the bedroom and the pavilion beside it is a semi-enclosed deck: covered, with blinds, but open to the air. Expect birdsong, wildlife and occasional farming activity on nearby properties, and a composting toilet. The fire pit is seasonal and is closed over the warmer months. We'll confirm availability for your dates when you book. This is a working cattle farm, so there are cattle, farm machinery, working dogs, electric fences and the occasional bit of dust and weather. That's the point of the place, but it's worth saying. We provide insect repellent and have electric snake repellers installed, but please take care when walking in long grass. Adults only. No children or infants. No pets. It's a working cattle farm with working dogs. The site is on uneven ground with steps into the caravan, and it is not wheelchair accessible. If you have specific access needs, contact us before booking and we'll give you an honest picture. There are no laundry facilities. Wi-Fi is free and works, but the night sky is worth switching off for. Minimum stay is two nights. Long weekends and holiday periods can carry a three-night minimum.

Neighborhood
Broke is a small rural village on the quieter western side of the Hunter Valley, in the Broke Fordwich wine region. Boutique cellar doors and family-run vineyards are dotted along Broke Road and the local lanes, with Margan, Winmark and Krinklewood all a few minutes away, alongside olive groves and country restaurants. Yellow Rock's sandstone cliffs dominate the view to the south, with the Brokenback Range to the west. The roads are low-traffic, the paddocks have cattle in them, and the vibe is tranquil and pastoral rather than town-centre nightlife. Pokolbin's larger cellar doors and restaurants are an easy drive when you want them.
